Vaping - What Every Parent Needs to Know

Did you know that Vaping is a method of drug use where a device (e-cigarette) with a heating element is used to turn the contents of e-liquid (such as flavoring, nicotine, marijuana, and other substances) into a vapor that is inhaled into the lungs?

An increasingly popular e-cigarette device is JUUL, JUUL looks like an easy to hide USB Flash Drive, and is available in flavors like fruit medley and mango, which helps to explain why it has become so popular among middle and high school students. Alarmingly, JUUL flavor cartridges (pods) contain the same amount of nicotine as a whole pack of cigarettes

Facts You Should Know right here in New Hope Solebury:
- 50% of 12th graders who have used vaping products in the past year have used marijuana or hash oil in their vape.
- Vape use in 10th graders has shown a 14% increase in student use from 2015 to 2017.

Vaping can contain harmful substances including cancer-causing agents, heavy metals like lead, and nicotine. Nicotine is highly addictive and can harm brain development and young people who vape are more likely to go on to use regular cigarettes.
