Our Initiatives

We believe that one of our greatest assets to the community is in identifying and facilitating opportunities to create lasting partnerships that promote a safe, healthy and addiction-free New Hope and Solebury. We  seek out those whose work aligns with promoting health and positive youth development and invite them to do some brainstorming about how we can partner for a greater impact. Our initiatives are examples of what is possible when passion and energy are combined with the willingness to share ideas and resources for the benefit of our residents. For details on our upcoming happenings, please visit our events page.

Monthly Community Seminar Series

Each month from October through June, we offer a free evening educational seminar to our community. The topic is different each month and focuses on an area important to substance abuse prevention or overall health and wellness. Presenters are area experts representing local area businesses, agencies and organizations. This offering wouldn't be possible without their amazing collaborations. The presenters donate their time and Trinity Episcopal Church donates event space in their beautiful McArthur Hall.

Monthly Parent and Caregiver Coffee Chats

This initiative is made possible through a partnership with the wonderful therapists of Amy Tielemans and Associates. The idea grew from a place of love and care for our area parents and caregivers of children in (or approaching) early adolescence. Research tells us that a positive parent/caregiver-child bond goes a long way in preventing negative behaviors. We wanted to offer expert information in an informal and supportive setting on various parenting topics. Coffee chats are free to participants, take place in the morning, and are held at different locations in our community including private residences. Beverages and snacks are provided.

Health Partnerships for Safe Medication Disposal

New Hope Solebury Cares purchased 400 Deterra® Drug Deactivation System pouches to distribute to our community members in need of an easy, environmentally friendly way to dispose of unused and unneeded prescription drugs. By properly monitoring, storing, and disposing of medications, we reduce the chances of them being abused or harming others. Currently, Giant Pharmacy Logan Square and physicians at Buckingham Family Medicine are partnering with us to distribute these pouches. Email us at info@nhscares.org if you would like a free pouch.

Working Out Stress Program

A growing body of research has linked stress and drug abuse. Our teens face many different stressors including the pressure to succeed academically, to fulfil responsibilities at work and home and to maintain positive relations with their peers both face-to-face and in online social platforms. We are partnering with local area businesses to offer free healthy stress reduction activities for our youth. To kick off this exciting new initiative, Fearless Heart Aikido and Cornerstone Clubs are working with us to offer introductory classes to expose teens to new ways of managing daily stressors.

Bi-Annual Prescription Drug Take-Back Days

Every year, in April and October, we partner up with our New Hope Police DepartmentSolebury Township Police Department, CVS and Giant Pharmacies in New Hope, the Bucks County Drug & Alcohol Commission, Inc. and various other Bucks County organizations to collect unused and expired prescription medications for proper disposal. This local effort is part of a broader effort throughout Bucks County, as well as a national effort spearheaded by our United States Drug Enforcement Administration. Police presence is required to handle controlled medications and our wonderful Bucks County Detectives, through the Office of the District Attorney provide funding for one police officer at all participating sites to support this bi-annual effort Our New Hope-Solebury residents volunteer to collect survey data and network with our local participants.

Weekly Parent-to-Parent Support Network

Whether your loved one is 13 or 45, in active addiction, or in recovery, you will be among friends in this group. You will find support and understanding from parents with a child in long-term recovery and those who are going through similar experiences. Our parent-to-parent support network is both secular and non-professional. Participants are simply parents supporting one another and sharing their own experiences and life lessons. The only requirement is that everything discussed in the room must remain confidential. Special guest speakers will join occasionally to lead the conversation. Come to share your experiences, give and receive support and understanding, and gain strength, information and resources. Parents meet weekly on Tuesdays from 7PM - 8:30PM in the chapel at Trinity Episcopal Solebury

Sticker Shock Campaign

We all forget things and sometimes we all need reminders. During specific times of year, such as graduation and prom, we offer our community a friendly reminder of the devastating consequences attached to purchasing or providing alcohol to minors. We are so grateful for our community partners such as HG Wood Fired Pizza in New Hope who graciously display our stickers on their merchandise.

Through the strategic partnership between New Hope Solebury Cares and New Hope-Solebury Coaches, we are pleased to announce the Coaching for Excellence program. The goal of Coaching for Excellence is to promote consistent, healthy, and drug-free messaging to young athletes. Through short, informal conversations during practice the Coaching for Excellence program is designed to improve our children’s athletic performance, health, and safety.
